Newly-crowned national men's discus champion Jason Morgan is eagerly anticipating this weekend's 22nd Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Senior Championships in Havana, Cuba as he continues on his trek to what he hope is the IAAF World Championships in August.
While he was not certain if this was his second or third national title, the former Calabar and Louisiana Tech thrower is certain he is right where he wants to be in terms of his progress.
"I am actually where I need to be as I am consistent around 58m/59m close to 60m and it only takes one throw to get that mark," he said Sunday on the third day of the JAAA/Supreme Ventures National Trials at the National Stadium.
Clutching his infant son, Jason jnr in one big paw, Morgan was bubbling with confidence he will achieve the World Championships standard of 64.50m, which is over a metre further than his National Record 62.95m.
This weekend's competition he said would provide him with top-quality throwers who he said will push him to do his best. "I am looking forward to CAC most definitely," the 26-year-old said. "The Cubans have good throwers so I will get good competition that should help me improve," he added.
Winning at Trials last weekend with a best throw of 58.61m, he said was good for him "as I was focused on getting the standard and the work is continuing and to stay focus and it will come".
Since returning a week or so before Trials, he said he has recaptured "a rhythm that I have been longing for. I met up back with my high school throws and have found a grove".
