Under-21 fund-raising begins in earnest

THE Jamaica Netball Association's (JNA) fund-raising effort to send the young Sunshine Girls to the 2009 World Youth Championships in the Cook Islands begins on Saturday, May 30 with a concert at the UWI, Mona Assembly Hall.

Lady Rheima Holding-Hall, wife of Governor General Sir Kenneth Hall will be patron of the concert, which JNA president Marva Bernard told the Observer will be one of two the national association is planning in a bid to raise the more than J$10 million needed to send Jamaica's Under-21 team to the WYC next year.

The JNA will be at Mega-Mart on May 17 and 24 between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm selling tickets, handing out fliers and displaying banners for the event.

As part of the national squad's preparation, they will face an Australian Institute of Sports touring team in three games at the GC Foster College of Physical Education and Sport on June 25, 27, and 30.

Jamaica finished fourth at the last WYC held in Fort Lauderdale, USA in July 2005.
