A stupendous goal by Ricardo Cousins earned champions Portmore United a come-from-behind 1-1 draw with Tivoli Gardens at the Ferdie Neita Park yesterday.

Damion Gordon headed Tivoli Gardens into the lead in the 26th minute, but substitute Cousins volleyed home spectacularly from just inside the box to level the score in the 63rd.

It was a goal of the highest quality and a fitting climax to Portmore's excellent season as they laid their hands on their fourth National Premier League title.

Portmore finished the season with 75 points which resulted from 21 wins, 12 draws and five defeats.

Portmore United - champions in 1993 and 2003 under the name Hazard United - won again in 2005.

As part of their celebration, a Portmore United Masters XI took on a Celebrity XI after the NPL game for the fans. That game was still in progress up to press time.

Three massive cakes in pink, blue and white with the words "2008 champions Portmore United" were on display in the VIP section.

Winning coach Linval Dixon said the draw wasn't the result he wanted, but was satisfied with a good performance to cap a fine season.

Tivoli Gardens finished a clear second, nine points behind on 66 points, seven more than third-place Boys' Town.
Head coach Desmond Francis said it was a even although finishing the game a man short after Kevin Blackford was dismissed in the 64th minute.
