Cunningham wins Paralympic javelin gold
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica’s Alphanso Cunningham won gold in the men’s Javelin F52/F53 at the Paralympic Games today.
Cunningham threw a regional record of 21.84 metres to beat Iran’s Abdolreza (20.72) who claimed second.
Third went to Mauro Maximo de Jesus of Mexico who threw 20.14 metres.
The 32-year old Cunningham won gold in the Discus in Athens, 2004 and placed fourth in that event at the last Paralympic Games in Beijing, China.
Jamaica is ranked 43rd on the medal table which is led by China which has 118 medals including 48 gold.
