Ramble, Hanover - Constable Richardo Mckay of Area One Operations and ex-constable Alanzo Williamson of a Trelawny address are both in lock-up at the Ramble and Ulster Spring police stations respectively on reasonable suspicion of robbery with aggravation and larceny of a motor vehicle.
The men were held earlier this week in connection with the April 8, 2008 theft of a black Honda Civic motor vehicle which took place took place in Queensland, Albert Town, Trelawny. According to a high-ranked police source, both men were interrogated by investigators from the Anti-Corruption Unit and are expected to be charged soon.
The Anti-Corruption Unit said that a man was in the process of returning a car he borrowed when on reaching the gate of the owner, he was pounced upon by two men armed with guns.
The men robbed him of his cellular phone and demanded the keys to the motor vehicle. After receiving the keys, they went into the car and sped off.
In a subsequent search, the vehicle was allegedly found at Constable McKay's home in Trelawny. The car keys were also said to be found in his possession. Investigations subsequently revealed the alleged involvement of ex-constable Williamson.
The incident follows closely on the heels of the arrest of two Hanover cops who have been accused of taking a $50,000 bribe from an alleged drug pusher to "compromise" a case against him.
According to the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN), the police information arm, the two cops went to a home in Green Island, Hanover where they informed the occupant that he was wanted for breaches of the Dangerous Drug Act.
While transporting the man to the police station, the cops allegedly demanded $200,000 "to compromise the case", the CCN said. The cops then took the man back to his home where he allegedly gave them $50,000.
The cases come as the police force steps up its drive to rid its ranks of corrupt cops. The Anti-Corruption Unit is headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Justin Felice.
