Teen knifed to death outside Transport Centre

Wednesday, April 23, 2008

A teenager was stabbed to death at the entrance of the newly-built Half-Way-Tree Transport Centre in St Andrew yesterday afternoon.

Police say the attack was staged by khaki-clad students along with other men in plain clothes who chased the teenager along Constant Spring Road before catching up with him at the centre.

The men then stabbed the teenager repeatedly. He was taken to hospital where he died while undergoing treatment. The incident occurred minutes before five o'clock.

The dead teenager was last night identified only as 'Raymond' of a Pretoria Road address in St Andrew.

Days after the centre was officially opened in January, Transport Minister Mike Henry hit out at the undisciplined behaviour of school children at the centre and invited school principals to view footage of students misbehaving.

Some of the walls in the bathrooms were also defaced with graffiti.

Since then, police officers from the Island Special Constabulary Force and security guards have been permanently posted inside the bus park.
