Murder in Mandeville market
ELLIOT BLAKE, Observer writer
Friday, April 18, 2008

Mandeville, Manchester - An orange vendor died after his throat was slashed inside the Mandeville Market early
Tuesday afternoon.

The victim was identified by police as Everton McFarlane, also known as 'Omar' of Coffee Piece, Clarendon.

According to persons claiming to be witnesses, the slain man, said to be in his early '30s, had his throat slashed just after 12:00 noon following an argument with another man. However, they were not willing to give any further details about who committed the murder.

They said the vendor's throat was cut inside the market, after which he ran to the market's entrance and collapsed.
Upon the arrival of the police, he was pronounced dead on the spot and taken to the Mandeville Regional Hospital.

"What is very disquieting, apart from the horror of the murder, is the fact that no one will come forward and tell the police who did this murder," said Councillor Sally Porteous (JLP, Mandeville) who is also a former deputy mayor. "So I am appealing desperately from the bottom of my heart that if you saw who did this, tell the police and let them handle it," she added.
