AN inmate of the Fort Augusta Women's Prison is now on the run after escaping the clutches of prison warders who had taken her to get treatment at a medical centre yesterday.
The woman, Regina Lewis, 28, escaped while in the custody of warders at the St Jago Park Health Centre in Spanish Town, St Catherine.
Lewis was sentenced for nine months for malicious destruction of property and 20 days for possession of a chillum pipe in November last year at the Yallahs Resident Magistrate's Court.
She was slated for an early release at the end of next month.
"She would soon be released but now she will have to come back and spend some more time," head of the Department of Correctional Services Major Richard Reese said.
