KAMAR Morgride, the man who shot a policewoman after stealing her service revolver, was on Tuesday sentenced to 40 years' imprisonment in the Gun Court.
The unemployed Morgride, who lived at Largie Road in Waterhouse, Kingston, was slapped with two 15-year sentences for wounding with intent and robbery with aggravation and 10 years for illegal possession of a firearm.
However, the convicted man, who is in his late 20s, will only spend 25 years behind bars, as the two 15-year sentences are to run concurrently.
The prosecution contended that on August 8, 2006 the policewoman, Odette McFarlane, was at her home, located off Washington Boulevard in Kingston, tending to her laundry when Morgride scaled the back wall and pointed a gun at her and demanded money.
When his request was not met. Morgride forced the cop into her bedroom and again demanded money.
A struggle developed when the policewoman took her .38 revolver from under her pillow. Morgride wrestled the gun from her when she fell and fired at her, hitting her in the thigh. Morgride was held two months later when he was arrested and charged.
