First murder in St Bess for 2008

Thursday, February 28, 2008

SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth - St Elizabeth police were yesterday investigating the first murder and also the first shooting in the parish since the start of 2008.

A 28-year-old man, Marlon Mosley, a construction worker of Lucea, Hanover and of Wilton, just outside Santa Cruz, died while Marlon Lewis, 27, of Siloah, north-east St Elizabeth, is in hospital after both were shot on Tuesday night.

Police say both men were at a bar in Wilton when they were approached by two men armed with high-powered rifles.
The men opened fire, hitting Mosely on the left side of the head and abdomen. He died on the spot. Lewis, who was shot in the left leg, was hospitalised in stable condition.

The gunmen were said to have escaped in bushes.
The police say they are yet to establish a motive for the shooting.
