CLARKS TOWN, Trelawny - A 19-year-old man who has been accused of driving away a motor car which killed a seven-year-old girl on the Panasus main road in Trelawny on Saturday, has turned himself in to the police.
Paul Smith, 19, of a Clarks Town address, reported to the Half-Way-Tree police station, St Andrew on Sunday.
He was transported to Trelawny and should be slapped with a number of charges, including manslaughter, driving a motor vehicle without driver's licence and insurance as well as driving a vehicle without the driver's consent. Reports are that about at 1:25 pm on Saturday, the child Deborah Brown and her family members were walking along the Panasus road way when a Honda Civic motor car got out of control and collided with Brown before overturning.
She sustained multiple injuries and was taken to the Falmouth General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Smith, the driver, reportedly fled the scene of the accident. Reports are that the owner of the vehicle had asked Smith to wash the car.
But not long after he had finished washing the vehicle, the teenager reportedly went for a joyride which ended in tragedy.
