Undertakers remove the body of Bermudian Vaughn Fubler who was shot dead in Three Hills, St Mary yesterday. His Jamaican girlfriend was also killed.

THREE HILLS, St Mary - The bullet-riddled bodies of a Bermudan man and his Jamaican girlfriend were yesterday found in their unfinished one-storey house in this usually quiet western St Mary district, leaving residents in a state of shock.

Police gave the names of the deceased as 56-year-old Vaughn Fubler of Devonshire, Bermuda and Lot 699 Industry Pen, Three Hills in Retreat, St Mary; and 32-year-old Sherene Henry, of Pimento Walk, Ocho Rios, St Ann.

The bodies were discovered at around 9:00 am by the contractor/caretaker of the premises who, having failed to contact Fubler by telephone, had gone to the premises.

Angella McTaggart, the police spokesperson for the parish, told the Observer that Fubler was apparently shot while he slept, as his body was found in his bed with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the neck.

Henry's body was found on the floor, face down in a pool of blood with what also appeared to be gunshot wounds to the upper back, McTaggart said.

Fubler spent his time between Bermuda and Jamaica and arrived in Jamaica on January 2 this year. The two were reportedly last seen alive Sunday afternoon at James Bond Beach, Oracabessa, a few miles north of where the double-murder took place.

Fulber's white Toyota Corolla motor car, which was parked at the front of the yard, appeared to have been broken into and the trunk and driver's door left open.

Residents protest against police killing

In another incident in the parish yesterday, residents of Jeffery Town demonstrated along the main road in the community from as early as 6:30 am to protest against the fatal shooting of Hylton Douglas, 30, by the police.

The police, in their account of the shooting, said they received a report that a man was seen in a car acting suspiciously and they went into the area to investigate.

According to the police, they signalled the driver of the car that was seen travelling in the vicinity of the Arcadia housing scheme to stop and the driver, later identified as Douglas, pulled a firearm from his waistband and aimed it at them.
The police said one of the officers fired a shot which caught Douglas in the forehead. He was rushed to the Port Maria Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The police said they recovered a Super .38 pistol with six 9mm cartridges from the body. However, the residents claim that Douglas, who was recently released from jail, was shot in cold blood and the gun planted on him.
