Two homeless men found dead

Saturday, January 26, 2008

TWO homeless men were found hacked to death in separate sections of the Corporate Area on Thursday.

One of the men, identified only as 'Lee' by a female onlooker, and said to be of unsound mind by the police, was found with multiple chop wounds in the St Andrew Parish Church Cemetery in Half-Way-Tree.

Police told the Observer that a passerby stumbled upon the body shortly after 10:00 am Thursday and alerted church security. Clad in a black tee-shirt and blue Jeans, Lee's body was sprawled atop a grave and had wounds to the face, side and feet. His left wrist was completely severed by what police say may have been a cutlass.

Police say Lee may have been in his mid-50s.
"Is why them have to do him so?" a female cigarette vendor at a nearby bus stop queried.

""Me know him. Him used to collect on Portmore bus long time ago," she told the Observer as a handful of onlookers peered over the cemetery wall.

The other unidentified man was found in a gully behind the Police Community Relations building along Ruthven Road.
The news team was denied access to view the body but according to a scene-of-crime cop, it was severely mutilated and was swarmed by flies.

Police said that the victim too appeared to be homeless as cardboard used for bedding was found near to the body.
"It appears he may have been living in the gully as several cigarette butts and pieces of cardboard was found beside his body," the scene-of-crime officer told the Observer.
