Saturday, December 29, 2007

SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth - One teenager is dead, another is on the run and his family home set ablaze following a stabbing incident in Mitcham District, Goshen St Elizabeth early Thursday morning, police say.

The police identified the victim as 16-year-old resident of Mitcham and student of Balaclava High School, Courtney Powell.

Reports are that at about 12:05 am Powell and 18-year-old Kedar Farquharson were at a shop in Mitcham when a dispute developed. A knife was used to stab Powell several times. He was rushed to hospital where he died at about 4:40 am.

The police are now seeking the whereabouts of Farquharson.

Police say that at about 7:45 am the one-bedroom house where Farquharson lived with relatives was set ablaze and destroyed, allegedly by angry residents. There was no one at home at the time, police say.
