Thieves break into home of PM's daughter
Guard held up; man's car stolen at fast food restaurant

Wednesday, November 28, 2007

A daring break-in at the home of Sherine Golding, daughter of Prime Minister Bruce Golding, was among several robberies reported by the police yesterday.

The police reported that the thieves broke into and entered premises occupied by Golding and her spouse at Surbiton Road in St Andrew and made off with a licensed Glock pistol, registered DPG546, a magazine with five live rounds, a Dell laptop computer, cellular phones and other valuables.

It was not clear if Golding and her spouse were at home at the time of the incident, which the police said happened between 12:30 and 7:00 am yesterday.

A Jamaica Labour Party source said yesterday that the party was incensed at the brazenness of the robbers.
"It seems as if no one is exempt from the actions of these hoodlums. If they can rob the prime minister's daughter, then who is safe?" said the JLP member.

Golding's ordeal came on the heels of the robbery of a female security guard along Beechwood Avenue in Kingston.

The woman said she was walking along Beechwood Avenue and upon approaching the back gate of the National Bakery, she was almost run over by a white motor car in which two armed men were travelling.

She said that when she attempted to scold the driver of the vehicle she was silenced by the nozzle of a weapon which was aimed at her face. The men, she said, demanded her handbag and cellular phone after which they sped off.

Gunmen also struck at the Barbican branch of the Burger King fast food chain yesterday. There they relieved an employee of his Toyota Corolla motor car.

Detectives from the St Andrew Central Division said they were unsure if the three robberies were done by the same gunmen.

"We are looking at the details of the robberies to find out if they are connected, but it is too early to make any pronouncements at this time," one detective said.
