A man who admitted to abducting and attempting to sexually molest a 14-year-old boy was yesterday sentenced to two-and-a-half years when he appeared in the Half-Way-Tree Resident Magistrate's Court.
The man, Neville Dunkley, alias Delroy, a resident of St Andrew, pleaded guilty before presiding magistrate Judith Pusey to charges of forcible abduction and attempted indecent assault of the 14-year-old complainant in May of this year.
It is alleged that on May 24 the complainant was at a garage in Liguanea, St Andrew when Dunkley rode up on a motorbike and offered him a ride home, which the complainant accepted.
However, instead of taking the 14-year-old to his home, Dunkley is said to have taken the complainant to a house in Hope Pastures, St Andrew where he exposed his genitals and made unsuccessful sexual advances towards the boy. The boy, however, managed to escape.
Dunkley, a middle-aged man with his beard and hair unkempt, later handed himself over to the police on June 29 after he was informed that the police had visited the premises in Hope Pastures in search of him. Some time later he was placed on an identification parade where he was pointed out by the complainant. He was subsequently arrested and charged.
Asked whether Dunkley was of sound mind, the investigating officer told the court that during an interview with him, Dunkley seemed to fully understand the implications of what he did, and even expressed remorse for his actions.
A source told the Observer that after being cautioned, Dunkley reportedly told the police that he was sorry and asked to be let go.
RM Pusey then sentenced Dunkley to 18 months behind bars for the forcible abduction of the complainant, and an additional 12 months in prison for attempted indecent assault. The sentences are to run consecutively.
