Jephthah Ford, the medical doctor who said he was severely beaten by four cops during an altercation at a dance in April, is scheduled to return to the Gun Court in August to face charges stemming from the incident.

Ford's bail was extended when he appeared in court last Friday and an August 10 mention date set. Ford has been charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and assault at common law.

The former politician was on Sunday, April 8 reportedly mauled by four cops, allegedly moonlighting as security guards at a dance at Fun City, the Port Henderson, St Catherine entertainment facility operated by Ford.

The altercation reportedly started when Ford intervened in a dispute between his elder sister, Andrea Ford and the same group of cops who also allegedly beat her. Police had relieved Ford of his licensed firearm during the altercation.

Ford spent a few days at the Kingston Public Hospital as a result of the alleged beating, and was released on Thursday, April 12, with his head heavily bandaged, his left eye covered with a cotton patch and both hands bandaged. He was also wearing a neck brace.

Majorie Shaw-Currie, one of Ford's attorneys, said the doctor suffered a broken rib, damage to the eye, both shoulders, the right side of his chest, and received cuts on the left side of his head and forehead.

Patrick Bailey, another of Ford's attorneys, said his client would be filing civil charges for police brutality.
