Mr Vegas' brother back in court today
Paul Henry
Tuesday, March 20, 2007

CARLTON Smith, the 58-year-old brother of popular dancehall entertainer Mr Vegas, was last Friday offered $100,000 bail when he appeared in the Kingston Gun Court to answer to allegations that he assaulted his common-law wife and her teenage son with his licensed firearm, and fired a shot at her.

Allegations are that on March 8, 2007, Smith, who is an ex-cop, was at home in the Patrick City area with his common-law wife of 13 years when an argument developed between the two.

Smith allegedly pulled his firearm and slapped the complainant across the face, causing severe swelling and bruises. It is also alleged that he fired a shot at her. The complainant's 14-year-old son intervened, and Smith allegedly hit him on the head with the gun, causing a gash that required five stitches to close.

The matter was reported to the Duhaney Park police station and Smith taken into custody and slapped with firearm and wounding charges.
When Smith appeared in court last Friday, the matter was set for mention March 20.
