MANDEVILLE, Manchester - June White, who along with her son Lennox Swaby and another man, Calvin Powell, are charged in connection with the robbery and murder of elderly Mandeville couple Richard and Julia Lyn, was Wednesday denied bail when she appeared before the Mandeville Resident Magistrate's court, despite a submission from her lawyer that she is hypertensive.

During the afternoon proceedings, White complained to a police officer of an aching shoulder, took sniffs from an inhaler and stood holding her back while she was in the dock, all this with a pained expression on her face.

Justice Norma Bertram-Linton, however, ordered that White continue to receive medical observation, after she denied White's bail application from her lawyer, Norman Godfrey, saying she was not provided sufficient grounds on which to grant bail.

Meanwhile, White's son, Swaby, who was sentenced to two years' imprisonment for receiving stolen goods, is now facing the charge of murder and burglary.

However, Swaby and Powell are still without legal representation and were instructed by Justice Bertram-Linton to apply for legal aid.

The crown, represented by Tanya Burke from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, asked for the matter involving the murder and burglary to be adjourned until March 7, pending the collection of outstanding statements and the availability of DNA test results.

Charges of receiving stolen goods against Powell and White, housebreaking and larceny and illegal possession of ammunition charges against Swaby and Powell are set for trial on March 7.
