OCHO RIOS, St Ann - St Ann's Bay Mayor Delroy Giscombe is to appear before the Brown's Town Resident Magistrate's Court today to answer to gun and assault charges, stemming from an incident at Bamboo in the parish last December.

Giscombe. is the second JLP mayor to relinquish his post within the last three weeks

Giscombe is facing charges of assault at common law, assault occasioning bodily harm and possession of illegal firearm.
It is alleged that in December last year Giscombe was at a home in Bamboo in the company of a woman when her husband arrived home during the night and saw them together.

The two men reportedly got involved in an argument during which the mayor allegedly pulled his licensed firearm.
A report was made to the Bamboo police and after investigations the mayor was slapped with the charges.

Giscombe, councillor for the Exchange Division, has since relinquished his position as chairman of the St Ann Parish Council, paving the way for deputy mayor Sidney Stewart, of the Bamboo division, to take up the position of mayor in the Opposition Jamaica Labour Party (JLP)-controlled council.
The JLP holds a nine to seven majority in the council.

Giscombe is the second JLP mayor to relinquish his post
within the last three weeks, as on January 15 Lucea mayor Lester Crooks resigned as chairman of the Hanover Parish Council amid controversy surrounding a hotel construction contract.
