Alleged baby snatcher charged
Observer Reporter
Thursday, January 25, 2007

THE woman who allegedly kidnapped a two-day-old baby girl from the Victoria Jubilee Hospital (VJH) in Kingston last Thursday has been charged with child stealing and is to appear before the Half-Way-Tree Resident Magistrate's Court tomorrow.

The woman, whose identity has not been revealed, reportedly posed as a ward assistant and told André Fairclough, the father of baby Dajahnae, that she was taking the child to another floor of the hospital to get her BCG shots. After Fairclough handed over the baby to the woman, he became suspicious. He began to search for the woman, but by then she had already left the hospital with the baby.

The police found her about four hours later with the baby at her home in Duhaney Park, St Andrew.
