Nov 24 sentencing for 17-year-old on carnal abuse charges
PAUL HENRY, Observer staff reporter
Thursday, November 16, 2006

A 17-year-old youth, who pleaded guilty to carnal abuse charges in the Home Circuit Court on Monday, is to be sentenced next week.

When the charges were read and the youth was asked: "Guilty or not guilty?" he responded: "I am guilty."

The youth was arrested and charged on June 19, 2006 for having sex with a 13-year-old girl, who told her mother and the police that the 17-year-old was her boyfriend.

The girl left home for school on June 13 and when she did not return home, her mother made a report to the Lawrence Tavern, St Andrew, police.

On June 19, the mother received information that the teen was staying at a house in the Lawrence Tavern area. The mother and the police visited the house and the girl was found in the company of the youth.

When questioned, the girl admitted that the youth was her boyfriend and that they had had sex.

Justice Lloyd Hibbert requested a social inquiry report for sentencing on November 24.
