A man found himself in contempt of court and was remanded into custody last week in the Half-Way-Tree Resident Magistrate's Court, after 'passing his place' with presiding Magistrate Judith Pusey.

Ian Allen, who appeared in court to answer allegations that he had abused his 12-year-old daughter, loudly refused to answer a question he was asked by Pusey. Allen maintained a look of disgruntlement on his face throughout the trial.
Pusey: "What school does your daughter go to?"
Allen: "You think I should tell you that? I don't think I should tell you that, your honour. I not goin' tell you that, your honour!"

Pusey: "Well I will keep you in custody until you do!"
Allen: "If is like that is like that, your honour!"
Pusey: "So shall it be!"

Allen then stormed into the holding area within the courtroom and Pusey instructed the clerk of the court to note that Allen was found in contempt of court, saying also that he had disrespected her court and had passed his place with her.

Earlier, Allen also accused the arresting officer in his court matter of inciting his daughter against him.
"Your honour, my daughter not going to send her father to prison. She is just under the influence of that man there," he insisted, pointing to the investigating officer.

This outburst, Pusey noted, had served as justification for the officer's claim that the 12-year old complainant was afraid of her father, and was being made unavailable for court by her guardians.

Allen maintained, however, that it was the investigating officer who was inciting his daughter against him. "My daughter not sending me to prison, and is that man who is influencing her!"
