St Mary man accused of murdering cousins gets Nov 9 trial date
PAUL HENRY, Observer writer
Wednesday, November 01, 2006

THE murder trial of Jeffrey Perry, the man who was accused last year of slashing the throats of his three young cousins in Kilancholly, St Mary, is scheduled to start in the Home Circuit Court on November 9.

Perry is accused of murdering Shadice Williams, 4, Dwayne Davidson,15, and Suann Gordon 13, on January 28, 2005, while their mother Sonia Williams was at church. Their two-year-old brother, who was also in the room at the time of the murder, was unharmed.

The defence earlier claimed that Perry was not fit to stand trial, but a government psychiatric assessment in March said otherwise. That assessment was disputed and the defence had its own assessment done last July, by Dr Herbert Wieder, who deemed Perry unfit to stand trial.

Last month a third evaluation was ordered after complaints from the Crown that a more recent psychiatric assessment was needed.

On Monday the Crown told the court that the recent psychiatric assessment had shown that Perry was fit to stand trial.

Justice Lloyd Hibbert said that the matter should go to trial, since there were conflicting reports on Perry's mental state.
