Bandits hit Mandeville jewellery store for $5 million

Monday, October 23, 2006

Mandeville, Manchester - Robbers held up a jewellery store in Mandeville on Saturday and made off with about $5 million in jewellery, cellular phones and cash, police say.

According to the police, at about 7:30 am, businessman Neweraj Kumar and his two employees had just opened the Treasure Box Jewellery Store at 3 Ward Avenue when three men entered posing as customers.

They brandished guns, tied up Kumar and ordered the employees to remove jewellery from the showcases, including gold and silver watches, bracelets, earrings and rings. The robbers also took other items, including 60 cell phones, as well as $400,000 in cash.
The three men then left in a Toyota station wagon.
The Mandeville CIB is investigating.
