T K WHYTE, Observer writer
Friday, October 13, 2006

SPANISH TOWN, St Catherine - Richard Duhaney, 41, who is charged with the March murder of his wife Daphne, had his $300,000 bail extended when he appeared in the Spanish Town Criminal Court on Tuesday.,/B>

Duhaney, a data technician employed to Cable & Wireless Jamaica, and of 3 North, Greater Portmore, St Catherine, will return to court on Thursday, December 14, when the case will again be mentioned.

The headless body of Mrs Duhaney, 37, a guidance counsellor at Balmagie Primary School in Kingston, was found in bushes at Sligoville, St Catherine, on March 19.
Police told the court that although they had not yet found the head of the victim, the husband identified the headless body of the woman to be that of his wife.

After further investigations, Duhaney was taken into custody on March 23, and arrested and charged on April 10.
The police seized a van with bloodstains driven by Duhaney and DNA blood samples were taken for analysis and have been returned. A copy of the certificate was served on defence attorney Peter Champagnie, who told the court that he needed more time to look at the certificate.

Senior Resident Magistrate Lorna Errar Gayle granted
the adjournment. This is the third time the matter is
being adjourned.
