Cops charge eight men in Mountain View
Observer Reporter
Friday, September 29, 2006

EIGHT men from the volatile Mountain View community in Kingston have been charged by the police, following a series of raids on Tuesday.

The police reported that the men, whose names have not been released, have been charged with murder, shooting and other serious crimes. They were among 88 men picked up during the raids.

"The rest have been processed and released, but we have wanted some of these men who are suspected of committing serious crimes for some time," an officer told the Observer.

The troubled Mountain View community has recently been rocked by political violence, breaking the fragile peace agreement brokered two years ago.
