Accused cop killer back in court Oct 6
Observer Reporter
Wednesday, September 20, 2006

ACCUSED cop killer and reputed former Olympic Gardens strongman Ian 'Oddie' Francis is to return to the Home Circuit Court on October 6, where his murder case is set for mention.

Francis is charged with the May 2005 shooting death of Constable Desmond Douglas, 23, of the Hunts Bay Police Station during a police operation.

Douglas, who died leaving a son, was shot in the neck after he and two other police officers approached three men at 16 Pelican Parade, Kingston 11.

After being hit, the constable ran from the yard onto the road where he collapsed and died. Francis was arrested a few hours later, after allegedly being found under a bed at 16 Pelican Parade.

Attorney Vincent A Wellesley told the Observer after court Monday that his client was not on the scene when the young officer was killed and that swab testing for gunpowder residue came up negative.
