Robbers make off with 70 generators from Kingston company
Observer Reporter
Wednesday, March 01, 2006

DELTA Supply Company, located at 102 Hagley Park Road in Kingston, reported yesterday that thieves broke into its warehouse between February 25 and 26, stealing goods valued at more than $8 million.

General manager Montclair King said among the items stolen were a large quantity of electrical generators.
King said that the thieves cut the lock to a metal gate to gain entry to the compound before they cut the locks to several containers, which stored the generators.

He believes that there must have been more than three persons on location, for them to move such quantity of heavy equipment.

"A total of 70 or more of these generators were stolen, which require at least three to four people to lift one unit," King told the Observer yesterday.

The company's general manager, however, accused the police of being tardy in their investigations into the theft.
"We have received very poor response from the police, very poor. We are not pleased by their actions or lack thereof," said King.

Senior officers investigating the theft could not be reached yesterday.

The stolen generators are all Blizzer BL 6500 models are blue and carry the Pramac Brand name. The Engine model number for the generators is LD100. Each generator is 805 mm (approximately 32 1/2 inches) long, by 558 mm (approximately 22 inches) wide.

Delta Supply Company, the sole authorised distributors and service centre in Jamaica for these generators, warned yesterday that purchase of the stolen units would be a criminal act and may result in criminal charges being brought against any individual or company found in possession of them.
