MONTEGO BAY, St James - Two Guyanese nationals who tried to use forged documents to get to Toronto, Canada, from Montego Bay were both fined $80,000 after pleading guilty in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Narendra Atchana and Chandardeo Nirmal, both 27 years old of Berbice in Guyana, pleaded guilty to uttering forged documents and were fined $80,000 or 30 days by Senior Resident Magistrate Winsome Henry.

The court heard that the two had come to Jamaica on February 7, and travelled to Mandeville where they met a man who arranged for them to get the Canadian passports with the photos and assumed names for US$1,000 each.

They had tendered the documents at the Air Canada counter on February 16 at about 3:30 pm when the agent became suspicious and alerted the immigration police.

The court was told that the passports did not have requisite security features and did not have stamps showing them to have landed in Jamaica.

The passport tendered by Atchana had the name Struetikant Persaud while the one tendered by Nirmal had the name Abdool Majeed.
