Observer Reporter
Wednesday, February 15, 2006

A taxi driver accused of bribing a police officer is scheduled to face the Half-Way-Tree Resident Magistrate's next Monday.

The police said the taxi driver, Valin Wint, 55, was arrested by officers from the Denham Town Police Station on Monday after allegedly attempting to bribe an officer to release his car from the Kingston and St Andrew Company pound.

According to the police, Wint was arrested and charged Monday for operating a taxi without a public passenger licence. Wint's vehicle was subsequently taken to the pound and he was taken to the Denham Town Police Station.

At approximately 7:35 am, while still at the station, Wint is alleged to have offered the arresting officer $2,000 to have his car released from the pound. The officer made an alarm and Wint was arrested.
