Guard gets two years for stealing delivery vehicle with cash
Observer Reporter
Wednesday, February 08, 2006

BOBBY Monroe, the security guard who was fingered in the theft of a Guardsman Armoured delivery vehicle containing £15,000, 230,000 yen and 180 Barbadian dollars, was yesterday sentenced to two years in prison.

Monroe, 29, found guilty with larceny as a servant, was sentenced by Senior Resident Magistrate Martin Gayle.

According to court documents, on December 1, 2004, Monroe and two other guards were dispatched from Guardsman with the duty to collect cash, when a stop was made at the Victoria Mutual Building Society (VMBS) on Duke Street, downtown Kingston.

Monroe, the court was told, was left inside the vehicle while the two other guards went inside to conduct business. However, when the two guards concluded their business and returned to the spot where the vehicle was parked, it was nowhere in sight.

Following a manhunt by the police, Monroe was captured the following day in Linstead, St Catherine with his service firearm and bulletproof vest, £1,500 and 230,000 yen.

In the meantime, Detective Corporal M Blackwood of the Kingston Central Police Station said there may be more charges in store for Monroe as the security guard is allegedly wanted in the United States and arrangements were being made for his extradition.
