Wanted man held during police chase
Observer Reporter
Wednesday, January 25, 2006

ROYAN Richards, who the police say was on its most wanted list, was held Saturday following a chase by the police along the Rockfort main road in Kingston.

He is facing charges of three counts of murder, three counts of shooting with intent, illegal possession of a firearm, and one count of arson.

The police said that Richards, 25, was driving a Mitsubishi Lancer motor car when he came upon a spot check and was signalled to stop. However, the police said he sped away.

The police gave chase and Richards was caught and arrested. It was not clear if the motor car was licensed and insured. But investigators said he did not have a valid driver's licence and will be charged for that traffic offence.

Richards, said the police, was the leader of the Royan Richards gang, which has been implicated in several murders in the Jacks Hill area of Kingston.
