Two earthquakes rattle Caribbean islands
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) – Several Caribbean countries were on Saturday rattled by at least two earthquakes, according to the Trinidad-based Seismic Research Centre (SRC) of the University of the West Indies (UWI).
It said the first quake occurred at 7:26 am (local time) and was registered with a magnitude of 6.5 while the second tremor which occurred at 7:34 am registered 3.9.
The SRC said that the epicentre of both quakes was generally the same area, with the first located at 161 km north east of Antigua and Barbuda; 218 km north east of Guadeloupe and 237 km north east of St. Kitts-Nevis at a depth of 10 km.
The epicenter of the second was located at 137 km north east of Antigua and Barbuda; 190 km north east of Guadeloupe and 219 km east north east of St Kitts and Nevis
Initial reports indicate the quakes were felt in Saint Martin, St Eustatius, Dominica, Martinique, St Lucia, and St Vincent.
There have been no reports of damages in any of the islands.
