Symbiote gets nod for mobile licence despite OCG report
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Government has given the go-ahead for Jamaica’s third domestic mobile spectrum licence to be issued to Symbiote Investments, which will market as Caricel.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness made the announcement in a statement to the House of Representatives Tuesday afternoon.
The prime minister said his Government carefully considered the issues raised by the contractor general in his report tabled in Parliament in July.
Contractor General Dirk Harrison asked the government to reconsider the issue of the licence based on the findings of his investigations.
Holness said his Government had done more than was required of it before arriving at a decision. He also noted that Symbiote had received a conditional approval from the previous government on February 15, 10 days before this year’s general election.
