Spot Valley High basketball player dies
ST JAMES, Jamaica — Another high school student athlete has died soon after taking part in a sporting activity.
Saymar Ramsey, a member of the Spot Valley High basketball team, collapsed and died on his way home from playing in an ISSA/Western Conference Under-19 game against Cornwall College in Montego Bay, St James, on Friday.
OBSERVER ONLINE has learnt that the sixth-form student was on his way home after the game when he fell ill and was rushed to a medical centre where he was pronounced dead.
He is the second student athlete this year to die, either while taking part in a sporting activity or soon after, following the death of St George’s College football player Dominic James in September.
James collapsed and died during an ISSA/Flow Manning Cup game against Excelsior High and a post-mortem examination said he died of a heart failure.
