Police in Guyana investigating robbery of jewellery store
GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) – The police are investigating reports of a robbery at a jewellery store here late Saturday.
According to Demerara Waves Online – the police report that just before 11:00 pm (local time), four men attacked Bishnarine “Sanjay” Persaud, the owner of Sanjay’s Jewelry Store, while he was about the enter the premises.
The police say the robbers, who forced Persaud to enter the premises, eventually left with two safes containing an undisclosed quantity of cash and jewelry.
Assistant Commissioner Clifton Hicken said no shots were fired and investigators have been reviewing surveillance footage.
Several months ago, Persaud was convicted and jailed for causing death by dangerous driving.
He is out on bail, pending appeal.
