INDECOM investigator detained after goats killed
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Outgoing Assistant Commissioner of Police for Area Three (Manchester, St Elizabeth and Clarendon) Derrick Cochrane confirmed last night that an investigator with the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) was taken into custody yesterday.
The investigator allegedly shot and killed three goats on his farm at Ellen Street, South Manchester.
According to Cochrane, charges against the investigator could include discharging a firearm within 40 feet of a public thoroughfare, and cruelty to animals.
Reports are that the investigator has an ongoing dispute with a neighbour about goats trespassing on his farm.
The situation reportedly escalated Sunday morning when he went to his farm and saw goats damaging his crops.
He allegedly fired eight shots from his licensed firearm and three of the goats were killed.
The carcasses were reportedly thrown into a nearby pit toilet and he then made a report to the Newport Police Station in the area.
He was then detained.
