FLOW to report to OUR on Internet service disruption
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) has written to FLOW requesting preliminary information on reports of widespread disruption to its telecommunication services from September 2-3, 2016.
In a news release today, the OUR said it has asked that the information be provided by September 8, 2016.
As the basis for its request, the OUR cited Section 3 of the Telecommunications Act (the Act), which includes protecting and promoting the interests of customers, purchasers and other users of telecommunication services.
It also pointed to Section 4(3) of the Act, which mandates the office, inter alia, to promote the interest of customers and to undertake investigations in relation to conduct that may breach the Act, and whether the specified services are provided efficiently and in a manner designed to afford economical and reliable service to its customers.
The information requested from FLOW includes: Confirmation of the reported interruption of Internet service; the time, extent and duration of service outage; corrective/remedial action taken to address the outage, and restoration time; number of affected customers; communication to customers regarding the outage (time, method); and steps taken subsequent to restoration and any future related steps to be taken.
The OUR said it will determine the next steps after receiving FLOW’s report.
