Dawes decries political appointments in health sector
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Dr Alfred Dawes came out swinging on Tuesday, insisting that the country cannot seem to separate politics from the system of health care.
Speaking at the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) President’s Forum at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston, he said, through divisive politics, the dream of what could be a prosperous Jamaica has been destroyed.
“We created our own tribes based on political allegiances,” Dr Dawes said.
The former president of the Jamaica Medical Doctors’ Association added that because of a tribal culture, boards in the health sector are stacked with political appointees. He asserted too that promotions are given not on merit, but on party support.
Dr Dawes insisted that Jamaicans are fed up and that the checks and balances of society no longer rest with the Opposition party.
