American Airlines jet makes emergency landing in Jamaica
DUNCANS, Trelawny — An American Airlines jet carrying 155 passengers made an emergency landing at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay this afternoon after developing engine problems.
“I can confirm that American Airlines flight 966 enroute from Quito, Equador to Miami, Florida made an emergency landing at the Sangster International Airport,” Chief Commercial Officer for MBJ Airports Limited, Elizabeth Scotton told the Observer.
Scotton said the Boeing 757 aircraft landed safely about 2:15 this afternoon.
She explained that the aircraft is expected to remain on the ground where an investigation will be conducted, while the passengers are expected to be transferred to another aircraft as soon as possible.
“American Airlines are managing the passengers at this moment, working to get them on their way as quickly as possible,” Scotton said.
