13 arrested in Lottery scam raid

MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica —Thirteen people were taken into custody following a joint police/military operation at Tortuga Drive, Greenwood, St James on Friday.

Police reports are that about 4:30 am members of the Anti-Lottery Scam Task Force Area One Fraud Squad, Anti-Coruption Branch (ACB), Island Special Constabulary Force (ISCF) and the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) conducted an operation at the premises.

Over US$5000, J$40,000, one Toyota Altis motorcar, several electronic items and documents were seized. Seventy-five cigars and a quantity of ganja were also seized during the operation the police said.

The people arrested are being profiled for reasonable suspicion for Conspiracy to Defraud under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Two have already been charged with breaches of the Dangerous Act. They are 33-year-old Marshell Hyatt and 21-year-old Neil Harding.

Identities of the others are being withheld pending further investigations.
