St Andrew High's Evening of Culture
Tuesday, November 03, 2009
Two Sundays ago, staff and students of St Andrew High School for Girls came together to stage the Evening of Culture at the Little Theatre. And the evening's entertainment did not disappoint.
After a welcome by Sharon Reid, the principal of St Andrew's High School for Girls, it was obvious that the young ladies were not only intelligent and beautiful, but also multi-talented. They showcased items such as dancing, drama, and played instruments.

The programme was well-organised, sparking TEENage's interest. The talented Justine Rookwood performed Mercy Said No.
The next performance - a dramatic piece - was exquisitely done as the students infused the concept of the popular reality show America's Next Top Model, in their own way with 'St Andrew's' Next Top Sixth Former'. TEENage was also taken aback by the musical talents of the girls who then performed a medley of movie theme songs, which were brought to life by a series of dramatic displays.
But arguably the best piece of the night was the drumming done by both staff and students reflecting our Jamaican heritage and culture thoroughly entertaining the crowd. The dance troupe highlighted aspects of dancehall, not limiting themselves to secular music, but showed their versatility with each performance.
The Sign Language Club, also, did not disappoint, performing My Redeemer by Nicole C Mullen, with their glow-in-the-dark gloves dazzling.
There was also an interactive question-and-answer section and prizes given away.
The evening climaxed with a group effort, which had all the performers singing Michael Jackson's Heal The World, a brilliant end to a wonderful evening of culture.
