| Gully creeping into the Dancehall fashion world, upcoming designers Shaun Miller Shavar Ornsby shows how well their hip, hot and hype designs go with dancehall. And these jeans are the perfect examples of their genius at modifications. |
THE Dancehall industry is about to witness the birth of a new phenomenon in the fashion designs. In the fast-paced fashion world that has a string of failures and successes, the strong-willed and determined duo of Shavar Ornsby and Shaun Miller have started their quest to dominate Dancehall fashion in Jamaica. With some very unique designs for their eye-catching clothes, they have successfully brought the fashion out of today's styles.
Childhood friends, both young men started when they were in high school, and have been on the fashion scene in their community of 'Black Roses' or East Street ever since. Shavar was the faithful pupil of his mother, who was herself a designer in her own right. It was here that he got is training.
He recalls her having her designs drawn up and coming to life through her dressmaking. He used the experience he gained to come up with his own style preference and it has resulted in the artful creations that TEENage lifestyle has chosen to capture in this week's issue of TEENage.

Shavar and Shaun have dubbed their clothing 'Dancehall Fashion' and have been designing for the past five years. Using fashion and dancing icons such as Bogle to inspire their ideas, they have become community household names as Dancehall designers as well as dancers in their own right.
When TEENage lifestyle met with them they admitted that they did not have in mind to use their love for designing as a business for themselves, however, they have plans for tertiary level study in fashion and designing abroad in the near future. This is in hopes of starting their own danchehall fashion clothing line and include the ladies in the fashion fiesta that is dancehall.
Their advice to young designers is "know what you want, keep focused and make sure you be true to yourself because people will know when you're trying to do something that's not authentic".
At the moment they have a show coming up with a dance group called the Swizzle Body Girls on the 16th May in their community. They only cater to males for the time being so if you wish to have any clothes modified or designed for you for that special occasion, you can contact Shavar at 446-8247.
