Digicel reunites with Shaggy's Make a Difference Foundation

Monday, November 02, 2009

The Shaggy Make a Difference Foundation was the recipient of a donation of $2.5 million from telecoms giant Digicel, at a press conference last Wednesday to launch the 2010 concert in aid of the Bustamante Hospital for Children.

Digicel's senior sponsorship manager, Shelly-Ann Curran, in handing over the cheque, noted, "Digicel is happy to join Shaggy's Make a Difference Foundation for the second year to help drive change and secure a brighter future for our children."

Director of the foundation, Rebecca Packer, said the donation would enable them to make even greater strides in their efforts to provide much- needed equipment as well as to refurbish and upgrade the facilities at the Bustamante Hospital for Children.

Curran pointed out that Digicel has been deeply involved with the community, social and infrastructural development across the island through both the Digicel Foundation and Digicel itself.

"We strongly believe in the well-being and development of the communities across Jamaica and this is yet another cause that we are proud to be supporting, particularly one that looks out for some of our nation's most vulnerable children."

Meanwhile, Packer also shared that Digicel has been a huge supporter of the Shaggy Make a Difference Foundation. "Digicel as a brand surpasses what we want from a sponsor and we look forward to Digicel's continued support of our efforts to make a difference."

The company will also be giving additional support to the hospital with the provision of a text line where customers can text in their donation.

"This text line will be opened one month before the concert and one month after, with all proceeds going to this worthy cause. Additionally, all revenue from credit sale at the concert will be donated to the Shaggy Make a Difference Foundation," said Curran in closing.
