A whopping $14 million was recently added to the fund for the Bustamante Hospital for Children, initiated by diamond-selling deejay Shaggy.

The PanCaribbean SIGMA Corporate Run, now in its 11th year, raised $14.258 million for the hospital, thanks to matching donations from the National Health Fund. Yesterday, over 9,500 runners, walkers and wheelchair participants made their way around the 5K course representing over 100 companies and private individuals.

CEO of the Bustamante Hospital for Children, Beverly Needham, smiles as she accepts a cheque for $14,258,000 from PanCaribbean's President and CEO Donovan Perkins (2nd right) and acting CEO of the National Health Fund Hugh Lawson (right) and Orville 'Shaggy' Burrell.

Shaggy earlier this year raised $27 million for the hospital with a Shaggy and Friends concert at Jamaica House. The ultimate goal is US$2 million. We applaud Shaggy for his altruism and for raising awareness for the needs of the hospital, and hats off to PanCaribbean for taking on this challenge.

A Raga/Nuffy showdown?

What is really going on between MC/deejay Nuffy and popular radio talkshow host, Ragashanti, affectionately called Raga?

Quite frankly, when we first heard that Nuffy had sent a challenge to Raga, it sounded so absurd that we just dismissed it. But, according to reports, the war of words played out on stage at Spring Break on Saturday night, with Nuffy even making special dubplates to commemorate the event. This trading of verbal punches and Nuffy's determination to continue is not even remotely funny.

The music is already overloaded with 'warring' deejays and selectors, therefore a clash between emcees is the last thing we need. In a telephone conversation last night, Nuffy charged that it was Raga who "drew first blood" last year at the Pegasus while negotiating their Sting contracts. "He has called up my name at other shows since then and I decided to dun him at Spring Break," Nuffy charged, adding that in anticipation of this clash he built his 'killing suit', made special dubplates and even had an ad on radio stating that Raga would have to tell Jamaica why he attended Shebada's birthday party.

Raga could not be reached for comment, but he has been quoted elsewhere as saying that he would not entertain a clash with Nuffy.
