A Beautiful Love

Monday, October 26, 2009

The mid-morning setting at the University of the West Indies chapel, Mona provided the perfect atmosphere for the marriage of Nicole Holness and Darren Downie on Saturday, August 22, 2009. The affair, a true celebration of love and friendship, was witnessed by the couple's closest relatives and friends.

The Beginning
The couple met three and a half years earlier while Nicole was visiting Darren's workplace. "We met in passing about three and a half years ago after a brief visit to Darren's workplace and quickly became friends," Nicole told Vows.

The Princess Bride
The bride made her walk up the aisle on the arm of her doting father, Valentine Holness, and looked the perfect princess in a strapless Mia Solona gown with delicate beading throughout the bodice complete with a full tulle train skirt with accented silver embellishments. Her hair was styled in a chignon with side-swept bang fastened beneath a princess tiara by Anna-Lisa Richards. The soft make-up by Impossible Creations enhanced her romantic glow. Nicole's bridal bouquet, comprised of white hand-tied calla lilies and roses, was created by her mother Charmaine Holness.

The groom Darren complemented his bride in a dark suit contrasted with a silver waistcoat and tie by Beautiful Brides and Mr Tux and was finished with a white rose boutonnière.

The bridal party was styled in elegant outfits for the mid-morning affair: Maid of honour Kerene Holness wore a red halter cocktail dress while bridesmaids Renee Chin and Nardia Gordon wore similar champagne outfits. Best man Dwight Carson and groomsmen Gabriel Dabdoub and Chris Talbert Golding were styled in dark suits with waistcoats that perfectly complemented their beautiful counterparts.

Officiant for the ceremony was Reverend Trevor Edwards. Cousin of the bride Jena Woodburn and mother of the bride Charmaine Holness co-ordinated and executed the champagne and claret décor theme requested by the bride.

Online shopping was Nicole's secret to keeping cool and organised for her wedding: "I was able to find most of the items for my big day by simply surfing the internet... I am an internet junkie and was able to find everything I needed, from wedding invitations to souvenirs online, on websites such as www.rexcraft.com which proved to be an easier and more convenient approach for my lifestyle."

After a brief ceremony, the couple and their guests headed to the Terra Nova Hotel and enjoyed cocktails and lunch prepared by the excellent hotel team. The reception was a light and lively affair that included a presentation by Master of Ceremonies Chris Golding that spoke to the couple's journey thus far. The presentation incorporated popular songs by local artistes Tessanne Chin and Buju Banton.

The celebrations went well into the afternoon and included a father- daughter dance to Billy Joel's Just the Way You Are.

Honeymooners
The couple honeymooned at Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.
