JAVAA show was a hit
MONDAY MUSINGS

Monday, May 12, 2008

JAVAA Does Mowtown Plus - 1978, the classic show staged by the Jamaica Association of Vintage Artistes and Affiliates last Friday at the Pegasus was quite an event.

Conceptualised by Bunny Brown (who himself performed), it had local entertainers in the roles of singers who made their names during that pulsating, musically powerful period of the seventies. Emceed by El Numero Uno, some artistes totally go into the role and gave convincing performances. It would be quite interesting to see a similar show done showcasing the reggae performers and their seventies hits.

Get well soon, Benzley

We were totally shocked to hear that Benzley Hype, one of the once-popular Scare Dems, had to undergo emergency surgery to his lungs, at the Kingston Public Hospital last week. Reports are that Benzley's lung problems started a few years ago after he was stopped by the police in a section of Kingston near to the dump and there were a lot of poisonous fumes from a fire which had started. It is said that the policemen, who all had on protective masks, kept the entertainer at the point for hours with needless interrogation, after which they allowed him to leave. Benzley, although not seen on stage much in recent times, has been an active member of the UMIJam cluster,

Condolences to Robert and Andrea Bryan

Even more shocking news was the utimely passing of Rohan Bryan, the only son of Robert and Andrea Bryan of Grizzley's.
He was only 25. Apparently, he had an asthma attack while working at 50Fest last weekend and was rushed to the hospital. However, he never made it. Our hearts go out to his parents, his sister and other family members. According to Clyde McKenzie, "He was one of the coolest kids you could ever imagine. He worked in the business with his parents, but at no time did he ever give the impression that he was the boss' son. You see him at a venue and he is working like just another member of the crew."

The funeral takes place on Saturday at 10:00 am at the Church of Transfiguration in Meadowbrook.
