Flash Flood Watch in effect southern and northwestern parishes
KINGSTON, Jamaica— A flash flood watch has been issued for low-lying and flood-prone areas of southern and northwestern parishes as increased and heavy rainfall from a tropical wave continue to affect the island.
The Meteorological Service of Jamaica issued the warning Sunday morning for the parishes of St Thomas, Kingston and St Andrew, St Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St Elizabeth, Westmoreland, Hanover and St James.
The flash flood watch will remain in effect until 8 am on Monday, October 13.
The weather service said a trough currently across the western Caribbean is expected to remain across the region until Tuesday, resulting in unstable weather conditions across Jamaica.
Projections are for periods of showers and thunderstorms, which may be heavy at times, along with strong, gusty winds to affect sections of most parishes, especially southern and northwestern parishes, continuing this afternoon through to Monday evening.
Fishers and other marine interests should exercise extreme caution as sea conditions will deteriorate in the vicinity of showers and thunderstorms, especially over southern waters.
A flash flood watch means that flash flooding is possible, and residents are advised to take precautionary measures, keep informed by listening to further releases from the Meteorological Service and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a warning is issued.
